Inflammatory processes are essential to our body’s defence mechanisms. These processes, however, also play a role in common human disease (eg, multiple sclerosis, lupus, Crohn’s disease, heart disease). Our research program aims to obtain a better understanding of the inflammatory processes as they relate to health and disease. Comprehensive genetic and genomic approaches are employed to identifying the genes and biological pathways involved in disease susceptibility and phenotypic expression. This information is expected to lead to the identification of targets for drug development. This knowledge will also be applied to improve diagnosis and clinical management of individuals with inflammatory diseases.
